The area around Frankfurter Tor in Friedrichshain is defined by its diversity. Since the fall of the Berlin wall, this section of town has become home to an ever more open-minded and international crowd. They have done much to make the area near Neon Wood a place that’s well worth exploring and by far one of the best areas in Berlin to EAT! Here are our recs.

Milch&Zucker
Milch&Zucker is one of the closest nearby cafes to Neon Wood – and they make one delicious cappuccino. Besides having scrambled eggs, fluffy croissants and a great vegan plate, their regularly changing lunch menu is no pushover either, thanks to some solid pasta dishes.
Location:
Warschauer Str. 70, 10243 Berlin

Il Ritrovo
With great ingredients and generous portions, Il Ritrovo is a renegade mix of Italian cooking and punk rock style – making it one of the neighborhood’s best spots for pizza in an atmosphere that evokes something that feels refreshingly DIY and 90s in its nature.
Location:
Gabriel-Max-Straße 2, 10245 Berlin

Santa Maria Eastside
With the flavors of Mexico and the charm of a gastro-pub, Santa Maria Eastside is one of the best places for food in Friedrichshain. Heavily influenced by Mexico City’s own street-food culture, this unique restaurant is where you can always enjoy a reliably spicy mix of classic Mexican dishes in new and exciting arrangements – but be sure and start off with their succulent tacos
Location:
Krossener Straße 18, 10245 Berlin

Saporito
With a menu that’s constantly changing but always serving up some of the most OG Italian ingredients this side of Friedrichshain, Saporito never fails to have some really good food, and it’s not far from Neon Wood.
Location:
Straßmannstraße 21, 10249 Berlin

Fatoush
For great salads, falafel, and just outrageously good Middle Eastern food in general, nothing quite tops Fatoush. Located on the lively Simon-Dach Straße, you’ll find yourself right in the middle of the action right after having finished a very delicious (and healthy) dinner.
Location:
Simon-Dach-Straße 41A, 10245 Berlin

Silo Coffee
If you’re seeking a solid hangout spot, we’d suggest selecting Silo Coffee. Just a short walk from Neon Wood, they’ve got their own roaster and their own approach to a good atmosphere. We’ll also add, You haven’t properly enjoyed a Berlin brunch until you’ve had one over at Silo Coffee. With a combo of avocado, fresh bacon and perfectly gooey eggs (locally sourced), they’re always cooking up the best of the best.
Location:
Gabriel-Max-Straße 4, 10245 Berlin

Chum and Friends
Great fusion cooking knows no bounds over at Chum and Friends. When you’re serving delicious drinks, flavorful burgers and dynamic deserts, there’s plenty on the menu to enjoy for everyone.
Location:
Niederbarnimstraße 17, 10247 Berlin

Rent in 4 steps. No paperwork marathon.
Most students go from "I think I'll book" to "I have a lease" in under 10 minutes. Here's what each step actually looks like.
Choose your apartment type
Filter by city, move-in date, and budget. Within each type, apartments vary by size, balcony or patio, and accessibility — and you can pick your floor. Everything you need to find your perfect student apartment.
Send your request
Fill in your details and send your request from wherever you are — everything happens online, no viewings, no appointments. You'll get an email with your login, then upload two documents in the Neon Wood app: a valid passport or ID and your enrolment certificate or acceptance letter. The name must match on both.
Sign your lease and pay
Sign in to the app to review and approve your rental contract, then transfer your deposit and pre-payment. Once we've confirmed your payment, you'll receive your counter-signed lease by email. Please don't travel or arrive for check-in before you have it — it's your confirmation that everything is complete.
Check in & move in
At check-in, our on-site team hands over your keys and walks you through the apartment. Together you'll complete a handover protocol that records the condition of the apartment — this protects your deposit, so take your time and note anything you spot. Your registration paperwork is ready on day one so you can register at your new address.
