Moving into student housing is often a student's first time living away from home. You want to know they're safe, supported, and living somewhere well managed. Here's what you need to know about safety, costs, everyday life, and getting settled at Neon Wood.

Students can book directly online: choose a location, browse fully furnished apartments with a private bathroom and kitchenette, and sign the contract digitally. One-time and monthly costs are clearly shown before signing. Rental terms are available for 6 or 12 months, with extensions possible while studies continue. Many students stay in the same apartment throughout their degree.

Anmeldung
At check-in your student gets the document needed to register at the Citizen's Office.

Enrollment
University enrollment is required to book — a study contract works too if enrollment isn't ready yet.

Health Insurance
We work with Techniker Krankenkasse so registration is straightforward from the start.

German bank account
Makes rent, utilities and daily payments easier — rent can start from a foreign account meanwhile.

Rundfunkbeitrag
€18.36/month, with a possible exemption for BAföG recipients not living with parents.

Most students go from "I think I'll book" to "I have a lease" in under 10 minutes. Here's what each step actually looks like.
Choose your apartment type
Filter by city, move-in date, and budget. Within each type, apartments vary by size, balcony or patio, and accessibility — and you can pick your floor. Everything you need to find your perfect student apartment.
Send your request
Fill in your details and send your request from wherever you are — everything happens online, no viewings, no appointments. You'll get an email with your login, then upload two documents in the Neon Wood app: a valid passport or ID and your enrolment certificate or acceptance letter. The name must match on both.
Sign your lease and pay
Sign in to the app to review and approve your rental contract, then transfer your deposit and pre-payment. Once we've confirmed your payment, you'll receive your counter-signed lease by email. Please don't travel or arrive for check-in before you have it — it's your confirmation that everything is complete.
Check in & move in
At check-in, our on-site team hands over your keys and walks you through the apartment. Together you'll complete a handover protocol that records the condition of the apartment — this protects your deposit, so take your time and note anything you spot. Your registration paperwork is ready on day one so you can register at your new address.
